Adult dental benefits under Medi-Cal used to be thin. That changed: since 2018 California restored full adult dental coverage, and today Medi-Cal Dental (still called Denti-Cal by most people) covers far more than a checkup. This guide lists what adults in Yuba City, CA 95991 can typically get covered, the yearly limit, what is not covered, and how we handle the paperwork at Yuba City Dental Arts so you do not have to.
Covered services for adults
The list below is the state’s benefit for eligible adults (21 and over). Frequency limits apply to some items, and some need prior approval from Medi-Cal Dental before we start, which we submit for you.

The annual limit
Adult Medi-Cal dental benefits have a soft cap of $1,800 per year. “Soft” because it can be exceeded when treatment is medically necessary and approved, and because some services do not count toward it, including emergency care and dentures. There is no cap for members under 21, pregnant members, and members living in a skilled nursing facility. In practice most adults never reach the cap in a normal year of exams, cleanings and a filling or two; it matters mainly when a lot of work is needed at once, and in those cases we plan the treatment across benefit years.
What is not covered, and what we do about it
Cosmetic work is the main gap: whitening, veneers and adult braces are not covered. Dental implants are also not a routine Medi-Cal benefit. If you are missing teeth, Medi-Cal covers dentures and, in some cases, bridges; if you would rather have implants, our sister implant department at Yuba City Implant Center offers single implants from $1,099 and snap-on dentures from $6,999 per arch, self-pay with financing. We will tell you plainly which option is covered and which is not before you decide.
How the paperwork works at our office
- You give us your BIC number when you book; we verify eligibility before the visit.
- After the exam, we tell you which recommended treatments are covered outright and which need prior approval.
- We submit the approval requests (crowns, dentures, some surgeries) with the X-rays. Medi-Cal Dental usually answers within a few weeks.
- Covered treatment goes ahead with no bill to you, unless you have a share of cost, which we explain in advance.
