What counts as a dental emergency?
A dental emergency is any problem that needs prompt care to relieve severe pain, stop bleeding, or save a tooth. If you’re unsure, call us — we’ll help you decide whether you need to be seen right away.
- Severe or worsening toothache
- A knocked-out, broken, or badly chipped tooth
- Swelling in the face, gums, or jaw
- A lost filling or crown that’s causing pain
- Bleeding or injury after an accident
What to do until you reach us
- Knocked-out tooth: handle it by the crown (not the root), rinse gently, and keep it in milk or in your cheek — then call us right away.
- Toothache: rinse with warm water and use a cold compress; take over-the-counter pain relief as directed.
- Swelling: apply a cold compress and call us promptly — swelling can signal an infection.
- Broken tooth: save any pieces, rinse your mouth, and protect the area until your visit.
How we treat dental emergencies
When you arrive, our first priority is relieving your pain and stabilizing the problem. We’ll take any needed X-rays, explain what’s going on, and start treatment — whether that’s a root canal, a repair, or an extraction. We’ll also plan any follow-up care so the issue is fully resolved.
